For many years the official position of the American Dental Association has been that any dentist who suggests that mercury amalgam fillings are a problem is a quack. How dangerous is mercury? Some jurisdictions have even banned items as seemingly bland as mercury thermometers. “...mercury, a bioaccumulative toxic compound recognized as a global
pollutant, accumulates in the food chain, so that a very small amount of mercury in a lake can lead to dangerous levels of mercury in fish. Just one gram of mercury, the amount found in one mercury thermometer, is enough to contaminate all of the fish in a lake with a surface area of 20 acres.” The EPA recommends great care in disposing of mercury found in household products yet disposal of dental mercury is for the most part unregulated. According to Dr. David Kennedy, if you have as few as four amalgam fillings in your mouth the level of mercury in your saliva is so high that you can’t legally spit in a toilet.
The question many thoughtful dentists have asked is, “If small amounts of mercury can pollute and poison large bodies of water, why is mercury suddenly safe when used as a filling for a tooth.” ADA gag rules have subjected some dentists to censure, harassment and loss of license to practice for advocating amalgam removal and replacement with nontoxic fillings. As I learned in researching my book Diagnosis Unknown mercury amalgam is also used to fill root canals which gets the poisonous substance even closer to tissue.
One of the heroes of our story, Dr. Terry Lee, of Phoenix, Arizona has been called before his Association several times to defend his stance on mercury free or biological dentistry, his license often at risk.
But the good guys have finally won one. From the Consumers for Dental Choice and Coalition for Mercury-free Dentistry we learn that “A federal judge in Connecticut has ordered the state of Connecticut to stop harassing Dr. Mark Breiner for criticizing mercury amalgam fillings. Breiner may now advertise and advocate mercury-free dentistry in any public forum, and state why they are such a horrid health risk. With a federal judge giving his imprimatur on Dr. Mark’s free speech rights, it’s clear that mercury-free dentists all over the country should be emboldened to advertise and advocate mercury-free dentistry. We urge you doctors to speak the truth boldly, and if the dental board whines, to show them this article."
This case was won on First Amendment grounds and is a huge victory for the forces for good health and should influence several other pending cases around the country.
Good Post. Your readership is growing so this will help get the info out there. Remind your readers that according the leaders in the holistic dental field (www.iaomt.com) just having the amalgams removed from the month stops the acute accumulation but will not lower the previous accumulated levels.

I've read some relative articles about mercury. Mercury is indeed harmful. By the way thanks to the author on posting this article here.
