It’s difficult to get all the nutrition you need given our food supply and busy lifestyles. You can take handfuls of supplements. That’s okay. Another way to increase nutritional input is with a daily power drink. Here’s our recipe for two people:
3-4 cups apple juice
1 banana
4 tablespoons Dr. Schultze’s Superfood or other green powder
2 tbs. lethitin
2 tbs. protein powder
1 tbs. raw flax seed
1 heaping tbs. of wheat germ
1 heaping tbs. of brewer’s yeast
2 tbs. of raw hemp seed
1 heaping tbs. of maca root powder
2 packs Emergen C or a couple tps. of powdered Vit C
Mix this all in a blender. If you have a crappy blender consider omitting the flax. We like to serve it in some hand blown glasses that we got at Callahan’s Glass Blowing Studio on Whidbey Island.
Here’s what we think we are getting:
Dr. Schulze’s Superfood—a natural raw source of vitamins, minerals and enzymes from organic, raw, wild sources. Lots of seaweed and blue green algae. Dr. Schulze is an herbalist who was defrocked by the AMA and now sells herbs, etc. through the American Botanical Pharmacy. We buy Superfood by the case because it keeps the price down to under $20 for a 14 once jar. Buy a case and you very often get a free book or one of Dr. Schulze’s DVDs. The last one was of a real tent meeting and Dr. Shulze preached a fine sermon. 1-800-Herb doc. http://wwww.herbdoc.com
Lethitin—supposed to break up cholesterol and allow it to pass through arterial walls.
Protein powder—as a vegetarian I get tired of having people ask me how I get protein. So, now I say, “I take protein powder.” End of discussion. Spiru-tein, the kind we’re using now, also has vitamins, enzymes, diet and cleansing aids.
Flax seed—keeps things moving and scours the colon.
Wheat germ—excellent protein. “And I take a scoop of wheat germ, too.” Also contains vitamins especially E, a good antioxidant.
Brewer’s yeast—sixteen amino acids, fourteen minerals, seventeen vitamins. Enough said.
Hemp seed— the most nutritionally complete food source in the world. Read all about it. http://www.ratical.org/renewables/hempseed2.html
Emergen C—for don’t we all believe in Vitamin C?
Maca root powder— “a rare, bio-active food crop developed by the Incas of Peru over 3,000 years ago for energy and endurance, sexual ability and pleasure, mental clarity and more.” Who doesn’t want that? We order it from http://www.macamagic.com/ by the kilo. A cute little Peruvian guy delivers it on a mule.
Thanks for that recipe! I've recently began to make a drink based on your recipe (I've added berries to mine and omitted the protein powder). Although for the first couple of days I had really bad gas and made frequent trips to the bathroom. I think it was my body just getting used to the flax and hemp seed.
