Well, "to be absolutely honest," I don't agree that there is such a thing as poor health in our language, or any language. Most academic linguists agree that languages change and evolve as part of a natural process. These phrases have their time now, but they too will pass. And if they stick around, well, they are becoming part of the new English. Who knows? Maybe in a hundred years, "you know" will be an established transitional phrase, used in formal documents? You know?

I do agree, however, that overuse of anything is pretty annoying. I enjoyed your take!
